Fear Not for I Am With You

In the beginning, Adam said, “I was afraid, and so I hid” (Genesis 3:9-10). Fear was humanity’s first reaction after sin entered the world. These two words — fear and hiding — paint a picture of the immediate and profound change that sin brought into humanity’s relationship with God. Fear became a spiritual and emotional consequence, while shame became a physical and psychological one.

Fear today still leads us to hide, retreat, or respond in ways that keep us from walking boldly with God. Yet over and over, God meets fear with the same answer: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”

2 Timothy 1:6-9 God is not giving us a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind.

A "spirit of fear": This is a paralyzing mindset of timidity, cowardice, and anxiety that is not from God. It is an internal state of being that holds a person back from being bold in their faith and ministry. It is the opposite of trust and courage.

Fear can take two forms:

  • A motivator – It pushes us to act quickly in danger or urgency.

  • A paralyzer – It freezes us, making us hide, retreat, or give up.

The question is not if we will feel fear, but what we will do with it. Scripture shows us that fear can be met with faith when we choose to trust God’s presence and promises.

Genesis 15:1 God tells Abram, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your very great reward.” This came after Abram worried about his future and lack of an heir. God’s presence was his security.

  • When I’m afraid, what do I do?

  • Do I hide, like Adam?

  • Or do I trust, like David, who said, “I will fear no evil, for You are with me”?

At the crossroads of fear, we always have a choice: to let it control us, or to let God’s presence give us courage, love, peace, and power.

Understanding God's Love powers our Faith in God to live.

What a great word Ps Aaron!

1 it has definitely influenced me in the way of not even trying to do it. And the fact of what if I get it wrong and what will people think if I don't meet up to a standards. Yes! Coming back to what people would think. My big one is a fear of failing. It has paralyzed in a way we're I can see but now having the ability to move forward.

2 I love what you brought out about the goal is not to be afraid but to put your trust in God. God does not want us to be burden down with the thoughts of feeling and not succeeding. But his…

What a message Ps.Aaron! Thank you!

How has fear influenced the living of your life?

Fear has definitely been both a motivator and paralyzed in my life. Motivator because of fearing to fail, paralyzed because of fearing to do the wrong thing.

In that, I found a lot of stop and go within my life because of the “fear” of being too much or not enough. It’s a hard thing,, but I was truly ministered to by what was said concerning 2 Tim. 1:6-7. That “spirit of fear” being a paralyzing mindset of timidity/anxiety that is not from God. An internal state of being that holds people back in their faith. The “fear” of being too much or not enough…

Amanda, I so appreciate you bringing this piece out, "Love is not a wedge maker.- disconnecting from God because of failure or sorrow is never the answer. Sure, we could disconnect, “unplug”, hide to lick wounds, or choose to connect and engage with Our Maker." So often when we face things that are uncomfortable or confrontational--fear causes us to disconnect. This is what Pastor Aaron was talking about and yet so often we don't recognize it for what it is. Yet it is a choice. I love that you brought that piece in--we can "Choose" to connect and engage with our Maker. He desires to be more than our Maker but a Father to us and when we choose to…

How has fear influenced the living of your life?

It's has robbed me of myself confidence it's taken sleepless nights happness self respect it's told me lies fear of people judgements I guess one can say it's been a big factor but I know it's has had a impact on most people at some point. I remember back in the 80's they had t-shirts with the the word No-fear maybe I need to start and put the No in front of the fear of the enemy.

What is a deeper understanding of God's love?

God's love is the foundation of all love God's love is unmatched and his love for humanity. The greatest demonstration of God's love was sending his…

Thank you Pastor Aaron for a message to draw us closer to the Father and His love for us.

How has fear influenced the living of your Life? I remember a time when the Lord spoke to me (a few years ago) and said, "You're living by fear not by faith"--OUCH! Yet, that was exactly what I was doing. It motivated the kind of behavior I had. Afraid He would not love me if I didn't do everything just right. Afraid what others would think if I didn't have the right answer all the time. Afraid of rejection. Etc. All of these things caused me to try and prove myself over and over again. Tried to be good enough, do…

How has fear influenced the living of your Life?

This is a tough one for me. I've been thinking, thinking! Now, we all probably know, I am like Liam when it comes to being at the Church in the dark, late at night, by myself! It's so weird because I have never watched scary movies. But I have experienced being paralyzed on numerous occasions! When I was pondering this I also realized I always have this fear that comes over me when I am by myself and I get in the car at night. It only happens at the church. Remember the old cars that had a dome light in the middle of the car ceiling that lit up th…

I enjoyed reading your post Rev. Connie and your statement about reluctancy "at times of witnessing" needs to read BY ALL OF US "I'm sure I've been reluctant at times of "witnessing" I didn't look at it as fear, I looked at it like, considering the situation especially when I'm going to see the person again and I don't want to ruin the chance if it's not the BAM! I'm reconsidering the label I've put on it. Maybe instead of reserved, reluctant, it was fear. Selah!" -- Hmm. It got me thinking as well. How many times we do believe and then receive the thought "I am going to get another chance to see this person again" so I wil…
