In the beginning, Adam said, “I was afraid, and so I hid” (Genesis 3:9-10). Fear was humanity’s first reaction after sin entered the world. These two words — fear and hiding — paint a picture of the immediate and profound change that sin brought into humanity’s relationship with God. Fear became a spiritual and emotional consequence, while shame became a physical and psychological one.

Fear today still leads us to hide, retreat, or respond in ways that keep us from walking boldly with God. Yet over and over, God meets fear with the same answer: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
2 Timothy 1:6-9 God is not giving us a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind.
A "spirit of fear": This is a paralyzing mindset of timidity, cowardice, and anxiety that is not from God. It is an internal state of being that holds a person back from being bold in their faith and ministry. It is the opposite of trust and courage.
Fear can take two forms:
A motivator – It pushes us to act quickly in danger or urgency.
A paralyzer – It freezes us, making us hide, retreat, or give up.
The question is not if we will feel fear, but what we will do with it. Scripture shows us that fear can be met with faith when we choose to trust God’s presence and promises.
Genesis 15:1 God tells Abram, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your very great reward.” This came after Abram worried about his future and lack of an heir. God’s presence was his security.
When I’m afraid, what do I do?
Do I hide, like Adam?
Or do I trust, like David, who said, “I will fear no evil, for You are with me”?
At the crossroads of fear, we always have a choice: to let it control us, or to let God’s presence give us courage, love, peace, and power.
Understanding God's Love powers our Faith in God to live.
