REDEDICATED TO THE LIGHT

In John 10, we find Jesus in Jerusalem for a feast that many Christians know little about: Jesus is no longer just a baby in a manger. He is the risen Christ.

John 10:22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple.

We can learn powerful truths from it—because Jesus Himself was in the Temple during this feast and made one of His boldest declarations there.

John 8:9 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

To Demonstrate It, He Healed A Blind Man

John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

In the book of Maccabees, we learn of the story of the Seleucid Greek ruler Antiochus Epiphanes around 167 BC, after conquering Egypt he invaded the temple of God and Stopped daily sacrifices, Banned Scripture and circumcision, Slaughtered a pig on the altar, Desecrated the Holy Place, Forbid the Feasts of the Lord and the Sabbath, and Attempted to erase Israel’s worship.

He defiled the temple and took away the Altar – Worship; took away the Candlestick – Word, took away the Table – Prophetic, took away Altar calls and Anointing – Healing and deliverance, and took away the Tithe and Offerings - Prosperity

It was a time when darkness tried to extinguish Israel’s faith.

However, a family of priests from the tribe of Levi, the Maccabees, refuse to bow and compromise, regardless of the benefit of the bribe. They refused the bribe, fought, prayed, and sacrificed to restore God's house.

Thus, the Feast of Dedication was established, and we celebrate it each year.

Hanukkah is not just a historical story but a prophetic vision of the church today. Learning Torah, restoring the feasts of the Lord, and relighting the candles of the light in our lives is necessary today.

Ex 27:20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

God desires to relight our flickering lights and make them a shining light to our community.

Shining Bright Together

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

  1. Why do you believe it is necessary to celebrate the Feast of Dedication each year?

  2. What was your greatest “Aha” moment in the message?

Looking forward to our discussion

In His Service,

Bishop Bill

Many great points through this message. I was just looking at my notes again, there was a lot in there that can preach awhile.

I believe it is necessary to celebrate Feast of Dedication every year because of what it teaches. It is a step by step guideline to our Christian walk. We need to learn some things, then live it, "Let the Word Become Life in Our Life," have courage, and hope. Once we build our faith some, then we can start thinking of others which include people hood, charity, holiness, and then we can have peace.

It also teaches that Jesus is the light, without Him we can't do anything in this journey. He really is the door…

Loved the message Bishop!

  1. Why do you believe it is necessary to celebrate the Feast of Dedication each year?

As a typical year unfolds, "life" has a way of consuming you and blowing out your fire. It can be easy to have taken a step back and not even have realized it. Celebrating the Feast of Dedication each year brings the concept of "re-dedication" and "our individual light" back around to put some things back in order and once again be dedicated to the light of each candle representation.

  1. What was your greatest “Aha” moment in the message?

-The Macabees were of the Levite tribe! Wow! I never heard that before!

    - A candle burns brighter when it's fire is…
