Sprouts Spring Forth

Our words have the power to change things around us.

Just as God said, "Let there be light," and there was light, His words had a creative power that changed everything around Him.

He went on to make man in His image and according to His likeness. This means that we share some of the same characteristics and attributes.

What we say is going to cause something to be created. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue," we find this in Proverbs chapter 18:21 and we will be eating of one of those types of fruits.

God has created us and given us dominion over this earth, and the way that we exercise that is through what we say.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 4, we read about praying with the spirit and then praying with understanding. Spirit-led prayer will cause us to declare God's will in this earth.

The story of Lazarus and the interaction Jesus had surrounding his death illustrates the deep trust Jesus had in God. He declared some things, but when He arrived and Lazarus had died, He wept. What He had originally thought would take place had changed, and now only God could bring Lazarus back.

If Jesus could have simply fixed it Himself, He wouldn't have cried or wept. His sorrow demonstrates that there had to be complete trust in the Father for this to take place, and that He, as a human being, had to go through that emotional process.

Now, after that, He said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard my prayer." With that, He gave a command—not quietly or timidly, but with great confidence that what He was about to say would take place—and He declared, "Lazarus, come forth!"

He didn't pray that the sickness would go away or that all the changes that had taken place in his body would be undone. He declared the end result, and all the things that were needed for that to take place fell into obedience and submission to the will of God.

I want my words to be God's words so that they have creative power.

I want to be able to declare those things that need to spring forth and come alive in the world around me. I want to speak with confidence and surety, knowing that the Father has heard me because I've prayed with the spirit and then prayed with understanding.

I don't want to just pray my natural observation, opinion, emotion, or feelings, because there may not be much power in those things. But if I submit to the authority and the spirit of God and pray with Him and with His understanding, my words will declare His will in this earth so that it might take place.

  1. Do you recognize there have been times where you have prayed but never tapped into praying with the spirit of God? How can you adjust your posture of prayer to become powerfully effective?

  2. How did the story of Jesus walking through the process of Lazarus' miracle help you to understand how to work with God?

  3. What part of the Word came alive to you through this message?
