The Three Rebellions

THE ORIGINAL AND ONGOING PLAN

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over

THE THREE PRIMARY, FOUNDATIONAL REBELLIONS in the Bible that explain the origin of sin, death, and chaos in the world:

1.     The Fall in Eden (Genesis 3)

  • The Rebellion: The serpent (a spiritual rebel) tempts Eve, leading her and Adam to doubt God's word and rebel against His authority by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil

    • Autonomous – independent, choose right and wrong without outside rules or authority

  • The Result: Humanity is exiled from God's presence, bringing sin, corruption, and death into the world.

2. The Fallen Sons of God (Genesis 6:1-4)

  • The Rebellion: Divine beings ("sons of God") violate the boundary between heaven and earth by taking human women as wives, leading to the corruption of humanity and the rise of the Nephilim (giants)

  • The Result: Intense wickedness fills the earth, prompting God to send the flood.

3. The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11)

  • The Rebellion: Humanity unites to build a tower to make a name for themselves, attempting to act independently of God and to dwell in His place

  • The Result: God confuses their languages and scatters them, assigning them to lower divine council members (sons of God over nations) as part of a divine judgment (Deut 32:8-9)

How does Jesus' temptations solve and reverse these rebellions?

Each temptation represents a choice to either repeat the original rebellion or submit to God's authority:

  1. 1st Rebellion (Eden/Genesis 3) vs. Stones to Bread:

o    The Rebellion: Adam and Eve took food they weren't supposed to have to satisfy their own desires and become "like God".

o    The Reversal: Jesus, though literally starving, refused to use his divine power to serve his own physical needs. By declaring, "Man shall not live by bread alone," he chose total dependence on God's word over self-sustenance.

  1. 2nd Rebellion (The Watchers/Genesis 6) vs. Jumping from the Temple:

o    The Rebellion: Divine beings (the "sons of God") crossed boundaries to seize power and influence through supernatural manipulation.

o    The Reversal: Satan tempted Jesus to force God’s hand by performing a public, supernatural stunt (jumping and being caught by angels) to "prove" his divinity. Jesus refused to manipulate God's power for a spectacle, responding, "You shall not put the Lord your God to the test."

  1. 3rd Rebellion (Babel/Genesis 11) vs. Kingdoms of the World:

o    The Rebellion: Humanity built a tower to "make a name for themselves" and were eventually divided into nations under the rule of lesser gods/demonic powers.

o    The Reversal: Satan offered Jesus "all the kingdoms of the world"—the very nations lost at Babel—if Jesus would just bow down. Jesus rejected this "shortcut" to power, choosing to reclaim the nations through the path of the cross and obedience to God alone.

Let's discuss:

  1. Why is being autonomous still dangerous today?

  2. How did your understanding of the three rebellions answer your questions about the problems in the world today?

  3. What were your aha moments during the message?

Why is being autonomous still dangerous today?

When enmity was found within Satan he exercised his free will and that free will went against God.  We hear statements like do your own truth. follow your heart. These sound good but they exclude the influence of God's divine order and character which is needed to guide us.

How did your understanding of the three rebellions answer your questions about the problems in the world today?

When we understand these categories of rebellions and how the enemy operates we can see the pattern in our own lives and we can see the pattern and how people can be trapped and confused in the seemingly good ways.  Then without God's guidance and standard…

Great Post Pastor Aaron. I appreciate your response to the second question..."When we understand these categories of rebellions and how the enemy operates we can see the pattern in our own lives and we can see the pattern and how people can be trapped and confused in the seemingly good ways.  Then without God's guidance and standard of life it leads to confusion and a way of living that is devoid of God's influence.  This helps us understand how evil can be done in a world where God exists. "

You really worded it so well--Patterns--thank you for bringing that word out as it really is what we need to see and pay attention to. There may be patterns that we…

What an eye-opening message Bishop; thank you!

Why is being autonomous still dangerous today? Being autonomous is really what got the devil kicked out of heaven—rebelling against God with wanting to do things his own way and not God’s way. It’s dangerous because when we have that mindset of not wanting anyone to tell us what to do and want to do it our way, regardless of what God says, we are rebelling just like Satan and there is a separation between us and God when we do that. We become uncovered. God cannot put His glory on rebellion. He cannot use us as His witnesses in the world when we are in rebellion. He cannot send us into the seven…

Thank you Bishop for this message that will help people understand and have an answer to the question "Why is there evil in a world created by a loving God?"

Why is being autonomous still dangerous today? Being autonomous demonstrates we have the same heart and will demonstrate the same characteristic behavior that caused the three different rebellions. We cannot be autonomous and operate in the kingdom of heaven! In the Kingdom of God, He rules, we do not! If we are autonomous, we will be kicked out of operating in the Kingdom of God, reap the rewards of rebellion, and in order to correct our behavior, we need to turn back to Him to let us in!

How did your…

Why is being autonomous still dangerous today?

Being autonomous means you're uncovered. God has a plan, it hasn't changed. So statements that God makes like "If you're not with Me you're against Me, If you're not gathering you're scattering..." can seem harsh on the surface. But, He created this whole deal and He has a plan that hasn't changed and He invites us to work with Him. The "autonomous" lie is that "I can do what I want" and "who does it hurt?". God has a plan and place for each of us under His authority, so if we decide to go rogue, AWOL, we cause delay or damage to ourselves and others. That's as dangerous today as it was…

Powerful post Rabbi.

Great statement about an autonomous life being an uncovered life.
