The Torah - The Scriptures Burning In Our Hearts

  • 2 min read

The Torah consists of the first 5 books of the Bible which Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. At the end of every Feast of Tabernacles, a Jewish holiday is celebrated called Simchat Torah, also known as "Rejoicing In The Torah." God not only wanted us to celebrate and rejoice in the Torah but He revealed to us that ALL of the Books of The Bible from Genesis to Revelation is HIS love letter to us. We need The Torah because God is introducing Himself and revealing His glory to the Hebrew people as well as Christians and given them the instructions to become a Kingdom of Priests, Exodus 19:5-6, on earth.

ree

Jesus opened up the eyes of His disciples, after His resurrection before He ascended to heaven in Luke 24:24- 53 and revealed Himself in the scriptures to His disciples. God's plan for us Christians is the same as He had for the Hebrew people, to become a Kingdom of Kings and Priest unto Him, Revelation 1:5-6. The Torah is the foundation/instructions for all Christians to become what God wants His to church to be: a Kingdom of Kings and Priests being a demonstration of the Gospel of the Kingdom for others to see.

Jesus knew that people would believe He came to do away with the Torah but He did not. He came to fulfill it not to destroy the law or the prophets, Matthew 5:17. Proverbs 28: 9-10 is clear warning for those turning away from hearing the law, their prayers are an abomination to Him. In fact, Luke 24: 24-53, Jesus reveals Himself to his disciples through the law and the prophets. God wants to do the same to His church today so we can be the correct representation of God to the world.

When Jesus got done with talking to His disciples, their eyes were opened to the scriptures, Luke 24:31. Too many times we just read the scriptures and do not wait until we have an encounter with God so He can open our eyes to the scriptures so the scriptures burn in our hearts. God desires for us to have an encounter with us when we open up the scriptures to read His Word, don't you???? Will you stay in His Word until that happens???

Questions to discuss this week:

1) How do you view The Torah differently since you heard this message?

2) Why is it important for Christians to hear the law and let it become life in their life?

3) Explain your "routine" of reading the God's love letter to you before you heard this message.

4) How has it changed since you heard the message?

5) What were some "aha" moments that caused burning in your heart to let the Word become life in your life?

1) How do you view The Torah differently since you heard this message?

I love looking at it from the perspective of the Torah is God's love letter to us in which we can rejoice in. Some people hear the word "Law" and they tense up but the reality is, the Law is good and gives us the instructions of life. As Paul says, it is also a "schoolmaster" that brings us to Christ (Galatians 3:24). Having a desire to hear and know the Law is so important and this message helped solidify that!

2) Why is it important for Christians to hear the law and let it become life in their life?

Proverbs 28:9 states, "One who turns…

1) How do you view The Torah differently since you heard this message? It's a love letter to me, not only revealing Jesus but showing me myself in it. For a long time, I would come to God and ask Him to show me Himself more and more in the word; but I have never considered asking Him to let me see myself in it. I can see why this is necessary as the enemy of our soul is always trying to tell us who we are not and who we are that is contrary to what God says.

Great post Elder Christy.

I figured my statement about asking God to reveal you in the scriptures would minister to you! It is our identity in Him the devil constantly tries to distort on a daily basis " For a long time, I would come to God and ask Him to show me Himself more and more in the word; but I have never considered asking Him to let me see myself in it. I can see why this is necessary as the enemy of our soul is always trying to tell us who we are not and who we are that is contrary to what God says" -- Excited to see the transformation!

Great statements "I have always loved reading…

How do you view The Torah differently since you heard this message?

-wow, a love letter from my Heavenly Father. A place where I can have an encounter with Him and get to know His heart for me❤️

Why is it important for Christians to hear the law and let it become life in their life?

-without personally hearing the Torah there is no understanding of how much God loves us. We miss His heartbeat, the connection to who God is and how much He just wants each of us to be with Him. We know Jesus and that He is the Door to God, but... Do we truly step through the door or just stay with Jesus if we…

How do you view The Torah differently since you heard this message? The reminder that the Torah is where all life starts and is sustained.

Why is it important for Christians to hear the law and let it become life in their life? The Torah/Law is where God reveals Himself. His ways, His character, His heart. Christians need to hear the law and let it become alive to them for several reasons: 1) You can not know God without it. 2) You can easily be led astray if you don’t know His ways. It’s important to be able to respond with “It is written”. 3) The rest of the Bible has no context without knowing the law. 4) Grace becomes “greasy” instead…

Enjoyed reading your post Melissa.

Thank you for your answer to question #2: "The Torah/Law is where God reveals Himself. 4) Grace becomes “greasy” instead of “favor” without the context of what Jesus’ blood paid the price for." -- Well said!!!

Thank you for allowing the scriptures to burn in your heart "This…

For me letting the word God's "Law" make a meaningful impact. I have no problem following Man made laws because if you don't there's consequences why don't I view that on God's Laws he to has consequences if I choose not to obey his laws .

Why is it important for Christians to hear the law and let it become life in your life?

The key word law just as I said in the last question. If I follow man made laws then I need to follow God because it's God that I am seeking and following not or no man.

Explain your "routine" of reading the God's…
