I love God BUT I want to love people! - Destroying Slothful Evangelism

Proverbs 21:25

25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

Do you desire a harvest of souls but realize you desired more than you labored for it? God gave us all an answer as to why! Slothful evangelism has kept the Church from truly going out and seeking and saving the lost because the "toothless lion" is outside of the our comfort zone roaring as if he is the "king of the jungle!"

Proverbs 22:13

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Proverbs 26:13-15

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

We must come to God and have him destroy the image of the "toothless lion" within us or other wise we will stay slothful and people will continue to experience a slow painful death in the mouth of "toothless lion!" God said during the message "If he, the toothless lion, stops you, he keeps them!" WOW, a sobering thought!

If we do not allow the image to be destroyed this is what your harvest field will end up looking like:

Proverbs 24:30-34

30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

Questions for you to answer from this message:

1) What was your toothless lion?

2) Where did the servants who received the 5 and 2 talents get their increase from? Where did the wicked and slothful servant bury their talents in?

3) What does the statement "If he, the toothless lion, stops you, he keeps them!" mean to you and those in your harvest field?

4) What were your "aha" moments/nuggets from this message that is causing you to let this Word become life in your life?

What a great word Rev Ryan!

1 what was my toothless lion? The statement you brought out your message. People need to have confidence in the car that is in you. I see my toothless line is why people in my hearts feel that I have known for so long has not latched on. But is it because I'm not been obedient to what God is saying. The works of men bringing the word of God to no effect.

2 the two servants got their increase because they invested their seed and their purpose. They were fully obedient and faithful. But the one servant who was thoughtful and lazy he was known as a wicked servant. He buried it into…

Thank you for a honest post Stephanie and for you seeing your toothless lion "But is it because I'm not been obedient to what God is saying. The works of men bringing the word of God to no effect" -- Disobedience to God's voice and obedience voice to the toothless lion is the behavior of slothful evangelism which will always cause the toothless lion to win.

Thank you for seeing the soul purpose of the toothless lion "the lions are out they are intentionally out for people. The fear or the thoughts that come after you will cause you to lose your harvest." - The toothless lions are there to stop you to keep them. Once we can see tha…

The toothless lion always speaks lies contrary to the truth so I must not believe the lie. The believing of the lie is what hinders and stops me.

The servants with the talents gained their increase from using their talents for Kingdom purposes. God prospered them with what they put their hands to and they in turn invested in the people and there was a harvest.

The slothful servant buried their talents in fear, It won't work. I don't want to lose what I have and so their talent produced nothing.

Those that cannot see the kingdom of God need a demonstration of the kingdom of God and if the toothless lion stops me from demonstrating the kingdom of God…

Maybe Rev. Ryan said it the way you explained the talents, but if he did, I didn't catch it either time I heard the message. You said, "The servants with the talents gained their increase from using their talents for Kingdom purposes. God prospered them with what they put their hands to and they in turn invested in the people and there was a harvest." Well said!

I suppose you're right about the lion devours slowly. I never pictured a lion devouring slowly, I always saw it as violently! It's probably the difference of a "toothless" lion and the King of the Jungle! 🤣

Amazing Word for all of us! Well done Rev. Ryan!

1) What was your toothless lion? The rejection that comes from the word "no". The idea that others may not see BAM as monumental as I see it.

2) Where did the servants who received the 5 and 2 talents get their increase from? Where did the wicked and slothful servant bury their talents in? The first two servants increased from interacting with people and the wicked servant buried their talent in their own space, their own life, almost as if to "hide" the ability to increase.

3) What does the statement "If he, the toothless lion, stops you, he keeps them!" mean to you and those in your harvest…

Outstanding post Rev. Connie.

Thank you for seeing your toothless lion "The rejection that comes from the word "no". The idea that others may not see BAM as monumental as I see it." -- I was here a while back at my job until God changed my heart and I could finally see it as my church. People say no all the time to God even in church so why would it be any different in my harvest field. This helped me overcome the toothless lion of NO when I am outside of the four walls of the "church."

Thank you for not hiding the gifts and talents God has given to you! For as long as I have know…

1) What was your toothless lion?

The statement was made in correlation to Prov. 26:15 that “the griefs from evangelism the old way (our way instead of God’s) keep us from opening up our mouths. This 100% applied to me. The false image/idea that I’ve missed it over and over again, fallen short so many times, tried with no results: how could that possibly change or be any different? - what a lie! Changed people, produces changed results.

2) Where did the servants who received the 5 and 2 talents get their increase from?

The servants who received 5 and 2 talents got their increases from sowing out amongst people. They found a return because they went out and spread…

Amanda I love this statement,"Our purpose, our business has to be His business, there is no room, sense, or harvest trying to fit godliness into worldly works or purpose." It's like the one who dug a whole and put the talent in the ground, or as Rev. Ryan said, the world. It could not produce. After I listened a third time to the message and he was talking about this part it made me think of our natural jobs--if we only sow into that ground naturally we cannot get a spiritual harvest--which is what you are saying here. We can go and give of our lives and do excellent work but it cannot produce a spiritual harvest unless we sow…

1) What was your toothless lion?

The false evidence appearing real that I have nothing to give, nothing to say to people. A twisting half-truth that is. Really I don’t have a thing to give people, not anything of myself that would really make lasting change in their lives. What I have received from God and what He gives me for them is what would impact and save them. The toothless lion is that I never have or never will or that the stacks of failures on top of a few small successes drown things out. Each day is a new day and so long as I seek the Father and real relationship with Him then just be willing to…

Hi Nate,

It's funny, we never really know what people are thinking and going through. I look at you and think OMGosh you have sooooooooo much to offer, give, and contribute to people's life. You're interesting, funny, bright, and can interact with those on opposite ends of the spectrum.... serious and light-hearted. :)

I appreciated your statement, "This slothful turning, back to the “comfortable” and the question: How many times has God opened the door (after our prayers for that door) and we turned? Back to something comfortable… religious answer… Oh my, ouch. A cycle that must be broken." A real sobering self-assessment for all of us.
