COMPASSION IN THE TASK

Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Jesus was about the Task of the Father's will to take the gospel of the kingdom to the world

36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Jesus didn’t just see people’s problems; He felt them. And that compassion moved Him to act, to serve, and to sacrifice.

37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;

38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.

Many Christians are about the task without compassion

There are not few laborers in task mode, but few laborers in compassion mode

Pray for laborers with compassion to send to the harvest

Luke 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

Jesus answers him with the parable of the Samaritan.

He revealed three approaches of religious people then and now.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

  1. Jesus was doing the task, and then He saw and was moved with compassion. How did this understanding impact you?

  2. How does compassion begin in your life?

  3. Which of the three religious people did you relate to and why?

  4. What was your greatest "aha" moment in the message?

Looking forward to our discussion

In His Service, Bishop Bill

  • Jesus was doing the task, and then He saw and was moved with compassion. How did this understanding impact you?

Doing all the right things, the good things, the works expected, if done without compassion and seeing the individuals they are just tasks. Yeah good tasks, even necessary tasks, but not “ministry”. Compassion is the driving force, seeing people the way God sees them, seeing them with the eyes of compassion moves us from do the do the to serve and sacrifice.

  • How does compassion begin in your life?

Well, there is nothing I can do to “work it up” that is a definite how compassion doesn’t begin. But it begins with seeing. Seeing people the way God sees them.…

  1. Jesus was doing the task, and then He saw and was moved with compassion. How did this understanding impact you? It showed me that I'm pretty good at doing the tasks, but i choose not to look and see what the needs of the people are and without seeing that need I will never have compassion for those people.

  2. How does compassion begin in your life? In the natural there's nothing I can do to have compassion for people, this is something that God will have to begin in my life.

  3. Which of the three religious people did you relate to and why? The prideful one. Being a man and one that God gave talents to fix things; it's a…

  1. Jesus was doing the task, and then He saw and was moved with compassion. How did this understanding impact you?

I have come to the realization how often I am just "doing a task" and never get to the compassion stage like Jesus did. Why? Because I have not had the eyes to see the true need of the new people that I meet street walking. I will talk and pray with people on the streets but it always seems so "surface level". In this season, my focus is to unpack people's situations on the spot so I can hear exactly what God wants to do about it. When we are missing compassion, we are not an effective witness and seem to…

Replying to

I would like to add an addendum to question 3. I read Rev Ryan's post and I do agree that I seek approval from others, but only as confirmation that I am hearing from God. I don't seek it to be exalted but instead to ensure that I am leading people properly. When I answered this, I saw the heart of that religious person as looking for glorification of themselves, but I can see the potential positive perspective (positive confirmation) as well.

Awesome message Bishop! I listened to it again in my travels this morning and got more out of it the second time listening to it. Every "Christian" needs this message to become life in their life!

Jesus was doing the task, and then He saw and was moved with compassion. How did this understanding impact you?

It impacted me in two ways, it confirmed that I see people the way Jesus saw people when it comes to their problems and the second one I NEVER want to become task minded again when it comes to people. Being task minded with no compassion almost caused me to leave the harvest field, God gave to me. Ever since He told me…

  1. Jesus was doing the task, and then He saw and was moved with compassion. How did this understanding impact you? I never thought Jesus as "not" having compassion, yet this shows it. He obeyed the Father and yet there was still a time that His eyes were opened to "see" beyond the obedience, beyond the doing the right thing and feeling what the people felt. This brought me right back to the "few" times I have felt real compassion for someone and what it difference it made to be able to truly minister to them right where they were with a real answer and not just knowledge of the word. If Jesus's eyes had to be opened to see the…
